MADRID (AP) -Financially stricken Real Zaragoza says a private investment fund provided most of the transfer fee to sign goalkeeper Roberto Jimenez Gago.

Roberto joined the Spanish club from Benfica for ?8.6 million ($12.3 million) on Monday.

Neither club have revealed the name of the fund and Zaragoza's control over any future sale of the player is unclear.

Third-party ownership of players is outlawed in many countries, but Zaragoza says Roberto's signing is within Spanish rules.

Zaragoza reportedly has debts of ?134 million ($192 million) and is in bankruptcy protection.
