Tougeki 2012 Officially Announced for August 4-5, Console Game ...

Today Tougeki updated their website regarding the date and location for this year?s Tougeki -Super Battle Opera- (colloquially known as SBO) as well as their plans for qualifying tournaments for the console titles. Originally announced at the April special qualifier event Cho Tougeki, Tougeki 2012 the 10th Arcadia Cup Tournament will take place August 4-5 in the city Narita, located in the Chiba Prefecture.

Tougeki also detailed their plans for qualifiers for the console titles: SoulCalibur V (1on1) and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (1on1). The organizers mentioned that holding qualifying tournaments at game centers is a difficult task, so the primary method for qualifiers will be through community-run tournaments. Some events have already been used as qualifiers, such as the KVO THE ULTIMATE BATTLE 2012 UMvC3 3on3 tournament (Chou, Kyamei and DIE-chan) earlier this month and last week?s 2012-2013 FINALROUNDBATS//01 (Kusoru, registered as Motobe Izou) as well next month?s FRB.

Tougeki will also have last-chance qualifiers for the console titles, which are run the day of the event, before the main tournament. The absolute limit for last-chance qualifier spots at Tougeki is usually 16; the organizers plan to have around 10 players advance to the main tournament for the console games. The overall size of the last-chance qualifier will be 32 players at the least or double that number, dependent on the number of entries.

The qualifier season for the arcade titles is currently running and ends on July 8. This year?s Tougeki will again be streamed on Nico Nico Live, but unlike last year?s event, viewing will be free of charge. Below is this year?s lineup for the prolific tournament series.
