PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti ? A Haitian official says President Michel Martelly plans to meet in private with former leaders in an effort to reconcile the country with its troubled past.
Presidential spokesman Lucien Jura says Martelly will meet Wednesday with ousted former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide. He also plans to meet with Jean-Claude "Baby Doc" Duvalier, the former dictator who made a surprise return to Haiti in January, 25 years after he was forced from power. It is not clear when.
Jura says the meetings are to be held in private. Martelly was sworn in as president in May.
Jura says Martelly already has met with Prosper Avril, an army colonel who led a 1988 coup that overthrew a transitional government. He resigned two years later amid protests.
