Oklahoma to Increase Oversight on Trailer Sales | RV Business

New legislation regarding licensing and sale of recreational vehicles in Oklahoma was recently signed into law by Gov. Mary Fallon.

According to a press release, the legislation provides:
?? Laws and rules that pertain to licensing and sale of new RV?s are separated from automotive laws.
?? Placing new towable RV?s with laws currently in place for motorhomes under the jurisdiction of the Oklahoma Motor Vehicle Commission.

Previously, motorized RV?s were handled the same as automobiles. After the bill goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2012, RV?s will be more autonomous relative to needed law changes and additions.

Prior to the new legislation, towable RV?s received very little oversight from the state. To the benefit of dealers and the public, a license will be required to sell new towable RVs in the state of Oklahoma.

To get a license, the applicant must go through the same process that is in place to become a motorhome dealer, and will require a physical location, proper facility, service technicians, public restrooms and the ability to perform warranty work.

?This is a great day for RV dealers and RV enthusiasts,? said Randy Coy, Oklahoma Recreational Dealer Association president and owner of Dean?s RV Superstore in Tulsa. ?This is a culmination of over three years of work and required extensive cooperation with state dealers and RVIA.

?This will be a benefit to Oklahoma RV dealers by providing a framework for better relations with manufacturers, giving insulation from any laws that otherwise would have been expressly for the auto industry, and for the public by requiring dealers to be responsible for their customers.?
